Clifton Primary School

SLE for Curriculum

Melissa is currently the Assistant Headteacher at Clifton Primary School, with responsibility for leading the Year 3/4 phase and coordinating creative development across the school.

She has experience of teaching across all primary phases but has focused on KS2. Melissa has worked across the whole of KS2 at Clifton and has demonstrated outstanding skills in supporting children to achieve their potential in all of these year groups. She has worked across the school to develop the implementation of a creative challenge curriculum in which the teaching of high- quality basic skills are embedded. Melissa’s work demonstrates that high standards can be achieved through a curriculum that is fun and engaging, where children learn with enthusiasm and genuine enjoyment.  Her approach has contributed to the offer of a broad and balanced challenge curriculum that enables all pupils to develop the capacity and capability for the arts in its broadest sense as well as to support and enhance achievements in core subjects of literacy and maths.

Children make outstanding progress in Melissa’s classes because she is passionate about children being involved in their learning, inspiring them with interactive, creative and thought-provoking activities that engage them.  She is committed to the role of the arts in the development and well-being of children and the need for more creativity in the classroom.

Melissa has led the school in achieving Artsmark and has also pioneered the delivery of Arts Award in literacy, visual arts and dance across the school to ensure that children are able to experience and learn through the arts in its broadest sense.
