School leadership development is accelerated when emerging and aspiring leaders have opportunities to practice leadership in different contexts and are mentored by able and experienced senior leaders. We are developing robust systems to identify talent from emerging careers to fast track candidates through bespoke and nationally accredited training.

Specialist Leaders of Education

One of the most rewarding aspects of work is the deployment of Specialist Leaders of Education.  This is because teachers who have been identified as leaders and experts in their field coach and empower colleagues to lead developments in their own schools. Tidal TSA believe outstanding practice exists within every school and SLEs are trained to work and support school’s according to their individual identity.

We have strengths right across the curriculum. We also have a unique offer within Behaviour and Special Educational Needs – one of the lead schools is a pupil referral unit currently judged outstanding by Ofsted.

Are you an aspiring SLE?

Are you an outstanding middle or senior leader with at least two years’ experience?
Have a successful track record of working effectively within your own school and/or across a group of schools?
Be able to give evidence of successfully using coaching and or facilitation skills to bring about sustainable improvements?

Key Points

  • Whilst SLEs will be outstanding at what they do, they can come from any school, regardless of the school’s Ofsted grade. However, the Head and Chair of Governors must agree that the school has the capacity to release them.
  • SLEs need to meet strict designation criteria.
  • SLEs have expertise in a specific area, for example a subject area, inclusion, literacy, early years, behaviour or school business management.
  • There is no pre-defined time commitment for SLE work because models and types of deployment will vary, but on average it will be around 15 days a year.
  • The payment rate for SLE time is £350 per day.
