Helen Johnson – EYFS
Helen has 11 years of teaching experience with wide ranging responsibilities across all phases of Primary Education. She has been teaching in Early Years for 5 years and has been the Foundation Stage Leader at St Nicholas Primary since September 2014. Helen has a pivotal role on the Senior Leadership team, widening her responsibilities to Child Protection, KS1 Leader, EAL, Phonics and Curriculum.
Helen has contributed to raising standards in attainment and progress year on year through her own practice and through supporting and leading colleagues to develop their own practice. By creating rigorous action plans, systematic data tracking and analysis and consistent monitoring and moderation, she is able to identify strengths and areas of development in teaching and learning. Following an audit of provision she produced an action plan with clear objectives, success criteria, timescales, costs; she then carefully measured impact via the triangulation of data, performance of staff and children’s work.
In her role as KS1 phase leader she has supported the teaching and delivery of the phonics across EYFS, Y1 and Y2. The data has reflected this as the phonics screening results have increased each year, reaching national average of 81% in 2017.Helen has experience of delivering high quality phonics tuition to trainee teachers on behalf of training providers such as the PGCE and shares her own practise within her classroom. As a result, the standards in the children’s writing in her class have been recognised by external Headteachers.
This year, Helen has worked closely with leaders from the Multi-Academy Trust to implement Maths Mastery into the Foundation Stage, which is having a profound effect in the children’s depth of understanding, progress and enjoyment of all areas of mathematics.
